Corbett presiding, in the absence if the president, Mr. J. Oates, and ..hero also were present Messrs. M. 11 Lin.strom, A. E. Nodwell, R. C. Bmitb (united), J. Jackson, S. llautapu (Waima), A. Tuekwell, 11. McFarlanc (Tawhiti), Mr. Walker, secretary, and Mr. W. James, assistant secretary, and Mr. Forrester (referees’ association) A complaint had been received id the condition of the Tawhiti tootbnil field at Waipiro Bay and had been dis

cussed in mi impromptu meeting. A» this meeting two investigators had been elected to visit Waipiro Buy to make tin inspection of the ground and report to the Tokoniaru Bay Rugby sub-union management committee. In this respect Messrs. Nodwell amt Smith travelled to Waipiro Bay ami Mr. Nodwell reported to Wednesday’s meeting that the ground when he inspected it was really unsuitable to play football on. A heavy flood dur nigr the year lmd inundated a portion of the lield, depositing a quantity of rubble on it. His impression was that if the ground was allowed to flood it would deteriorate. Who flooding had been caused through the creek bed filling up. He suggested top dressing the had parts with two or three inches of soil and stated that the Tawhiti club had made a good effort ic get the ground in order. My Bnutli endorsed Mr. Nodwell *s remarks, and added that if the ground was condemned I tie sub-union might suffer. The secretary reported that he had visited Waipiro Bay, accompanied by Mr. Nodwell, during the week-end. The ground was not of the best. To make a permanent job would prove too expensive, and he agreed with Mr. Nodwell that if covered with soil it might answer tlio purpose for the time being.

Mr. Tuekwell said that Mr. Walker had gone to much trouble in connection with the ground and lie realised the fairness of the investigators’ reports. The ground had now been top-dressed, he reported, and he asked if the sub-union would give something towards the oxpenso.

On the motion of Mr. Linstrom, seconded by Mr. Forrester, it was decided that tho sub-union should donate £2 10s towards the cost of renovating the ground. It was decided that in future the Tawhiti dub should notify the subunion as to whether the ground was suitable for playing on at the beginning of the season. LINE UMPIRES Following the reading of a letter from a, referee it was decided to advise line umpires that they should abide by the referee’s decision. A recommendation is to be forwarded to the Referees Association asking that referees ol matches, when picking line umpires, should see that they are unbiased.

Mr. Tuekwell asked if any player from this sub-union had been nominated lor the Taimii (Tip match to be held at Tikiiiki and was informed tbat. .1. McIlroy was the only player selected. Considerable discussion ensued on the matter of travelling expenses, it being generally thought that, the present charges were excessive. The matter of tho conveyance of United juniors to Waipiro Bay to-day was left in the hands of the secretary and Mr. Smith, and Mr. McFarlane was employed to convoy tho senior players to lolaga Lay. Arrangements were discussed for the seven-a-sido tournament in Tokoniaru Bay on .Tune 23. A working committee was appointed to get the matter m ham and look after the donations. The prizes are to be the same as last year, cups for the winners and medals f°r the run-ners-up. In this fespect Mr. riiekwell offered to donate one medal for the run-ners-up, and this was accepted with up predation. The entries for the tournament close on June 20 and the sefielaries of chilis are to he asked to torward as early as possible a list of teams Vo participate in the tournament.
