GISBORNE WINTER SHOW

BETTER THAN LAST YEAR TAKINGS UP 33 1-3% ENTRIES FROM AUSTRALIA At the opening last evening of the Winter Show’ in Messrs. Common, Shelton and Company’s wool store there was an increase over last year s figures in the takings at the. door of approximately 33 1-3 per cent. In view ol this, and tlie number of complimentary references paid by members of the public to the secretary, Mr. J. M. Kay, on the general lay-out and satisfactory exhibits, the success of the fixture seems to be assured.

Entries have been received from other parts of the Dominion as far south as Beaumont, Otago, and as far north as Whangarei. However, the entries have not been' confined to New Zealand, for m the sewing and l cooking sections there are some Australian exhibits.

The sideshows and games were well patronised last evening, but it was realised that these would meet with greater success as the show proceeds, i.ust evening the. crowd was too keenly interested in the exhibits.

Messrs. W. Lints and' T. J. Adair have consented to act as judges of the decorated procession. Mr. Lints is at present visiting Gisborne and his qualilications are well Known, as are those of Mr. Adair.

’flic trade exhibits are to be judged by patrons of the show and the voters, who receive ballot papers on entering tlie hall at all sessions, are to place their slips in the ballot box situated at the entrance of the secretary s office. Over 100 votes were cast last night. Special items of interest this evening will be the canaries and cage birds section, the national dancing, and the ping-pong championship series. The baby show will take place to-morrow afternoon.

Additional results appear on pages 10 and 11.
