The. s.s. Pnkcko left Gisborne at 3.45 p.m. for Napier. A road-making experiment is being tried out on a mile-lung section of the Station Peak. road, in the Waimatc County, Canterbury. 'The treatment consists irt using the material already on the road and mixing it thoroughly with the bitumen by means of graders running across the rorul. The mixture is then spread and graded over the entire surface of the road, the whole process Inking a very short time. A huge scheme involving the expenditure of approximately £107,050 lor the absorption of unemployed labour has been approved by the Palmerston North City Council. The scheme comprises the following: Water supply addition, £89.000; Kawati branch drain cut off to drain flood water. £10,603 ; Kuwait Ft ream enlargemenl. £4600; storm water eon lluit.;, £2200.
