WEDDINGS

SPENCE—BRUCE (Herald Correspondent.) A wedding of considerable interest was "celebrated at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Wairoa, last week. The contracting parties were Ann, daughter of ML" and Mrs.' W. T. Bruce, of Ruakituri, and Hector Leslie, only son' of Air. and Mrs. J. L. Spence, Mangaroa. The 'church was prettily decorated with golden chrysanthemums. The Rev. Mr. llaigh officiated, and Mrs. ,T. .Macdonald presided at the organ. The bride, who was given away by her father, looked charming in her gown of cteam chenille velvet, finished with a long train. The embroidered veil was held in place with orange blossoms and she carried a. bouquet of while chrysanthemums. Mr! c. Ross, Wairoa, was best man. After the ceremony a small reception was held at Osier’s tea rooms, where 1 lie guests were received by Mr. arid Mrs. Bruce and Mrs. Spence. The happy couple, left later on a tour of the North Island.

HAYNES—GLENDINING

Of special interest io Poverty Bay and Hawke’s Bay residents was the wedding which took place at- St. John’s Cathedral, Napier, yesterday afternoon, of Loroa Elizabeth, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Glendining, “Waihua,” Wairoa, to Stewart Miller Daniel Haynes, of Auckland, son of tbe late Mr. and Mrs. Alex Haynes, of Dunedin. Golden sunshine gleamed on the exquisite ivory Brussels lace of the wedding gown as the bride, attended by her retinue of four girls, entered the church on the arm of her father. Cut on sliirily flowing lines, the long tapering train was cut in one with the skirt. Tho softly draped corsage was held in place at the neckline with a cluster ol or.-jnge blossoms. Tiny buttons and a large flat bow finished (lie back of the bodice, and the small sleeves were puffed. Around her neck the bride wore a lovely string of pearls. Over tbe wedding gown fell a veil of billowing white tulle, caught to her head by an exquisite halo of seed pearls. Her sheaf of orchids added the last harmonising touch to a perfect ensemble.

Clad alike in frocks of flame net over taffeta, Miss Prue Conway, Feilding, Miss Jean Ballantvne, Christchurch, Miss Gwen Dampney, Orniond'ville, and Miss Elizabeth Hadfield, Wellington, made a pretty picture as they followed the bride down the aisle. Their frocks fitted ejoselv to the knees, thence flared out gracefully to tho ground in front, and into a slight, train at. the back. From t|ie knees down, narrow bands of bronze velvet were inlet into the skirts, matching tho long sashes. Similar bands encircled the short- capes, falling from the fielm neckline. The corsages wore -finished with a large, bronze velvet rose. Most becoming coronets of bronze velvet, stitched in flame, finished their attractive attire. They wore long champagne gloves and carried gold lame bags, the gift of the bridegroom, and shower bouquets of bronze chrysanthemums, Iceland poppies and maidenhair fern. Two picturesque figures' were tbe small train-bearers. Masters John nod David Blackley, wearing the Stuart tartan with blouses of white satin finished with lace collar and cull’s.

The Bishop of VVaiapu, the Tit. Rev. H. \V. Williams, performed the ceremony. Mr. It. Glendining. brother ol the bride, was best, man, and Mr. C. lrnfford, Gisborne. Mr. J. Marshall, Marten. Mr. 0.- Perrv, Feilding, Mr. It. Hunt, Wellington. Mr. W. Rainbow, flashings, and Mr. J. Coleman. Havelock North, acted as ushers. After the ceremony the wedding reception was held at the Masonic Hotel. The guests were received bv Mr. and Mrs. Glendining. assisted by Mrs. TJallnnlvne. Christchurch, aunt of the bridegroom,

Mrs. Glendining was wearing a handsome model ensemble of champagne French lace. The three-quarter coat- had a shoulder cape edged with brown fox fur. She wore a smart hat and carried a bouquet to tone. Mrs. Ballantyne was wearing a smartly cut, model frock of brown panne velvet effectively finis-bed in beige and pink tonings. She wore a- smart, hat and carried a bouquet in pink tunings.

Later, when the hride and bridegroom left on their honeymoon tour, the hride looked charming in a smalt navy blue tailored costume finished with a white gardenia and white tailored blouse. With this was worn a navy blue shovel lint, fox furs and accessories to tone.
