On taking the chair to call lor nominations, the county clerk, Mr. F T. Robinson, expressed his own thank, and those of the staff to Cr. Matthewand other members of the council lot the manner in which they had cooperated in the work which required attention during the past year. Or. J. The chairman, in acknowledging hi; return, commented taut he appreciate! the evidence of continued confidenci in him. The past year had been : busy, .and in some respects a difliculi one, and that on which the council wnt now embarking promised to he ever busier, He hoped that with the cooperation of members of the council and that of the staff, it would he possible to show further progress who: the next annual meeting came round

WAIKOHU COUNTY OR. FRASER CHAIRMAN’ The Wnikohu County Council at t hi annual meeting to-day re-elected Or A. A. Fraser as chairman, unopposed. Cr. H. .1. F. Tombleson expressed np predation of the manner in which Cr. Fraser had carried out his duties during the past term. The officers were re-appointed, and a motion passed- rescinding the 10 per cent cut in salaries, wages and travelling allowances. The meeting date was fixed for the second Tuesday in the month.

OUTSIDE COUNTIES (Per Press Association.) NALTER, this day. Mr. F. B. Logan was re-elected chairman of the Hawke’s Bay County Council to-day. He. described the 40-hour week as impractical and impossible, and added that no council could afford to pay double rates to get roads cleared on .Sundays or holidays.

The Hull County Council to-day re elected Mr. D. R. lfoggard its chairman and the Makara County Council re-elect ,d Mr. R. G. Mexted. —I’.A.
