HITLER AS ARTIST
WAR-TIME PAINTINGS INTEREST IN ARCHITECTURE RERUN. April 24. Facsimiles of water-colours painted by Herr Hitler during the war have just been placed on exhibition in the Wurttemberg State Library in Stuttgart. The paintings are all of buildings, and are clearly the work of a man deeply interested in architecture. Throughout the war Herr Hitler, first as it private and later as a lance-corporaL carried his paint brushes with him. The water-colours show various parts of the front' and were painted during 11)16 and 1917.
One is stated to have been painted in December, 1917. in the trenches in front of Ypres. H shows a church shattered by shell-fire, with ruined houses in the background.
A “Field Hospital - ' is the title of another painting which shows a ruined farmhouse with a. red cross above the door. As in all other works in the exhibition there are no human tigures, but three, birds tire hovering above the shattered roof. All the water-colours are small—about Tin. by 12in. Their size was no doubt dictated by the circumstances under which they were painted.
oil paintings and water-colours by Herr Hitler, mostly dating from before the war, are in existence in the possession of private individuals or of the Nazi J’arly. Tim hope is expressed bore that it may be found possible to arrange an extensive, exhibition of the originals.
