GOLDEN WEDDING
GRANT—HALIBURTON TO-DAY’S CELEBRATION Congratulations were showered to-day upon Air. and Airs. David Grant, of 69 Ormond road, Gisborne, on the occasion of their fiftieth anniversary of their wedding day. Air. and Mrs. Grant, who both enjoy excellent health, were able to enter with keen enjoyment into the celebrations arranged by the meinuers of their family and other relatives. Numerous messages were received com veying good wishes from friends in other parts of' New Zealand, and especially from the Hawke’s Bay district, where both Mr. and Mrs. .Grjmt are well known.
Both parties to the wedding, which took place at Waipukurau on May 26, 1886, were born in Scotland. Mr. Grant came to New Zealand as a boy of five years, accompanying his parents, and Airs. Grant made the journey from Scotland as a young woman, her maiden name being Miss Isabella Haliburtoo. Their marriage at Waipukurau was celebrated by the Rev. A. Grant, a namesake but no relative of the bridegroom, who, however, had a brother in the Presbyterian ministry. This was the Rev. William Grant, for several years minister of St. Andrew’s Church, Gis borne, who lost his life on Gallipoli peninsula while serving with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force as a chaplain. Air. David Grant also lost one of his sons, Allan, in the Great War. His surviving family comprise Air. Ralph Grant, Gisborne, and Mrs J. Olsen, Wairoa, and Mrs. S. Hodges, Levin. There are 14 grandchildren living.
Among the visitors for to-day’s gathering in honour of Air. and Mrs. Grant are Airs. J. Wahl and Aliss Wahl, Norsewood, a sister and niece of Mrs. Grant; and Airs. J. Coles, Papatoetoe, Auckland, sister of Mr. Grant.
