OPOTIKI AIR PAGEANT
DISPLAY OF AEROBATICS TWO PARACHUTE JUMPS The first air pageant held in the Opotiki district was /olidacted under the auspices of the Auckland Aero Club in Mr. It. A. Ilcdley’s paddock on Saturday. The weather was ideal, and about 500 people attended. In addition to a three-passenger cabin monoplane, five Maths arrived during the morning. Thirteen pilots, including vFlight-Lient, D. M. Allan, the club’s chief instructor, took part in the pageant, and displays of aerobatics were given. Two parachute jumps by Mr. G. W. Sellars were highly appreciated by the spectators.. Owing to tlie strong Southeasterly wind, the parachutist had difficulty in judging the extent, of the drift, and on his second jump he landed in an adjoining paddock, missing the hedge by only two feet.
Many people availed themselves of the opportunity of viewing Opotiki from the air,, and. the aeroplanes were kept constantly employed.
