GISBORNE SITTING OPENS FIRST JN SIX MONTHS ONE CASE FOR TRIAL The quarterly sitting .of the Supreme Court, opened' in Gisborne to-day, His Honour Mr. Justice Reed, acting-Chicf Justice, presiding. This is the first sitting for six months, the last having been adjourned. His Honour, addressing the grand jury, said that there was only one case for their consideration, one of negligent driving, causing death. It was not the usual collision case. The man killed was a passenger in a car driven by a Maori, who admitted that the car was travelling at an excessive speed, but said that the accident was caused by faulty, brakes and the jamming- of the accelerator. The car was a lured one. There was drink in the car. His Honour did not think the grand jury would have any difficulty in reaching its decision.
The grand jury returned a true bill in the case of alleged negligent driving against Jacob Ngatai. Grand jurors sworn were John Peach, foreman, Frederick T. Hall, Hugh D. Anderson. Eric T.
