THE LABOUR PARTY ADDRESS

(To tlx; Editor of the Herald.) Sir.—Air. Lord’s letter in your Saturday issue, regarding the above, is welltimed and aptly worded, for Mr. Parker’s address was a masterly survey of the part which the press plays in public, life. It is to he regretted that press etiquette prevented a reporter being present, nut as organiser of these lectures on behalf of the Labour Party I have a request to make. J( is that yon stretch a point, get Mr. Barker to write up a special article from his notes of the address and that the article he printed in the Herald. 1 am sure that the public would appreciate an opportunity to read it. The press would indeed be hard pressed to find a more able advocate and the critics would he equally pressed to find a fairer opponent or one more worthy of their steel. 1 have heard nothing but praise for the speaker’s effort, even when those praising disagreed with some of the remarks. I am convinced that this initial address of the scries has done much to bring about a. mutual understanding of the. other fellow's point of view, and so in contributing to the purpose of the lectures, augurs well for the winter’s programme. For the information of Air. Lord, and others interested. 1 may arid that the next meeting, on Monday. .Tune 1. will be devoted to the' discussion of the subject, the discussion having been crowded out. owing to the many questions arising.—Yours, etc., ALEX B. SCOTT.
