SEVEN MONTHS' RETURNS IM FOR TS S HO W i N(R K AS I'] HARBOUR BOARD REVENUE An increa.se in imports into the district over the wharf, and a slight decrease in exports, for the seven months concluded on April 30, are shown in figures compiled by the managing secretary of the Gisborne Harbour Hoard, .Mr. 11.'A. Barton, whose return also shows that both revenue and expenditure for the same period have declined. The reduction in revenue was anticipated by the hoard when if made conto shippers last year, and i.s not Greater than was allowed for in the annual estimates of the board, it is satisfactory to note that the shrinkage in revenue lias, been almost balanced by economies in general expenditure, purchases oi new plant, and interest payments. ‘ .During April, 4763 tons ol cargo passed inward over the wharves at Gisborne, as compared with 2885 tons for the same month of 1935; while 2885 tons

went outward from the port, as against 1789 tons for April, 1935. The seven months’ comparison shows 27.842 tons inward. against 27.063 tons for the corresponding period of the previous financial year; and 22,705 tons of exports, as against £2.982 tons for the seven months period ended a,t April 30, 1935. Over the longer period, the increase in imports was 778 tons, and the decrease of experts 277 tons. Comparisons of income from various main sources are also shown in the managing-secretary’s return for the seven months' period as under:—
