NEW AND BETTER ONES TESTING STATION OPENED LONDON. March 25. New and belter tire insisting materials may be the outcome of researches now being carried out at Elstree as a result of recent studio tires. , A tire-testing station- was opened at the end of last year and is now working. In one of the laboratories materials of all kinds are exposed to conditions identical -with tlfose occurring inside a burning building. Their temperature is rapidly raised lo lfiOOdcg. F. and then-, more slowly, (o about 2000dcg.
During the test, they are loaded as activity as they normally would be and jets of water are made to play on them. The- -best fireproof materials must withstand these trying conditions for six hours.
Walls and floors are tested by being strongly heated oa one side only, l! they collapse, of in cracks appear, or if the temperature on tho cool side rises by more than 250 deg., they are considered useless.
