Venning lost his first game this season, when lie lowered his colours to Meredith, and, Ritchie took the wind out ot Meredith's sails by beating him comfortably. Harris, MeMahon, . Powell, Lawn, and Aiken, jun.. all climbed a rung higher by beating their opP °TrT the Sealed Handicap, Powell scored 'five wins during the last week, bltt the surprise was Fere's win over Hampton. Ouseley, who has been in Wairoa for several weeks, did not produce the form he showed against Napier in the -Hook challenge game, when ho won both his games.
