An underground reservoir, containing an immense quantity of highly com* pressed gas, was discovered 10 years ago. , 'file; technique was then insufficiently jfdvanced to permit exploitation, but newer-machinery allows'engineers to obtain 1,000,000 cubic feet of the gas every day. It can be transformed on tbe'.spqt into a solid —the so-called ‘•<lry ico.", .-■This has many uses: from the freezing of ice cream to the manufacture of - soda water. Another reservoir of the same kirn! is'khown. to lie under the Saitou Scut basin, California. From it 1,000,000 tins of 'dry ice could be produced—if an appropriate process is worked out.
