SIBERIAN RAILWAY
SPECIAL ENGINE BUILT MOSCOW', April 17. A new locomotive, expected to be of great military importance oil the TransSiberian railway, and to work a. revolution in the waterless stretches of Asiatic Russia, has been developed at the Kolomnnsk' locomotive works. It is equipped with a tender-condenser which cools and liquefies steam otherwise wasted, permitting water to be used again and again. Water supply is one of the most difficult problems for railways in the regions of the Soviet Union. In some districts, 40 per cent of operating costs are for maintenance and construction of water supply systems. The new locomotive can run 626 miles without refilling its water tanks, where the existing locomotive must stop for water every 50 miles.
