MAN AND WIFE PINED In the Tanmarunni .Magistrate's Court, before Messrs. W. Campbell and W. Thomas. J.P.s, to-day, Joseph William Crihb pleaded guilty to stealing two ewes from Leonard Stephens, at Pungnpuiiga. Crihb made the excuse that, he was in dire need of food for his wife and four children at the time of the offence, but was now earning 14s a day in the bush. Accused was convicted and fined £5, and was ordered to make restitution of £3, the value of the sheep. Lizzie Crihb, wife of accused, was convicted and fined £1 and ordered to make restitution of 345, the value of two lambs stolen by her from the same owner when tliev were a. few weeks old. Accused stole the. two lambs in October last, reared them, and sold them in March for £2 to a neighbouring farmer.
