Olivia De Haviland
MISS Olivia De Haviland, an IS-yeai- *" old British girl, the star of the lavish pirate-thriller film, "Captain Blood'-'--is tho latest mctcoi in the Hollywood sky. Dark, siniling-eyed, Olivia de Haviland was born in Tokio. Her'father was I lie British head of a film of lawyers in Japan. She was taken to California when two years old and lived quietly with mother and sister in Saratoga, a little California*) village. Not long ago she decided she would like to be famous, and so went to Hollywo.od whore she got a job as understudy in Max Reinhardt's production of "A Midsummer Might's Dream" at, the Hollywood Bowl. Bernhardt chose unknown Olivia to play Herinia, one of the best parts ever obtained by a girl of her age, and critics singled her out for praise. She was then cast for a part opposite Joe. E. Brown in "Alibi Ike." For this performance she was rewarded by starring in "Captain Blood."
PHARLES Farrell,' who recently made "Tho Flying Doctor" in' Sydney, Janet Gaynor, and Clark Gable all started film work at the same time as extras, and appeared together in crowd scenes. •
