NO PRINCE OF WALES
EFFECT ON HOLIDAYS ■ MELBOURNE, April 8. The fact that there is now no Prince of Wales has .created a difficulty in regard to awards affecting mem'bers of the Federated Garters .and Drivers' Industrial Union. It was provided that employees should have a holiday on the birthday of the Prince of'Wales, but it was brought to the notice of Chief .Judge Uethridge in the Arbitration Court to-day that there is no longer a. Prince of Wales, and therefore there cannot be a Prince of Wales' birthday. A variation in the award was asked for. It was pointod out that in several of the awards this day is proclaimed as a holiday 'beyond a radius of 25 miles of the Melbourne G.P.0., but within that radius Melbourne Cup Day is observed instead. It was agreed between the employers and employees that Melbourne Cup Day should be observed as the holiday within the metropolitan area, and that outside the city the holiday should fall on gazetted local holidays for shows and race meetings.
"His Honour made the variation on these lines.
