(Herald Correspondent.) Dining the week-end the Flaxmere Cricket Club,- Hastings, paid a visit to Wairoa and • defeated the local team. Scores: —Wairoa, first innings 140 (Brown 37), second innings 79 (Helean arid Croker 18 each); Flaxmere, first innings 173 (Biggar 77), second innings 132 for five wickets down (Doreen, retired, 101). At the annual meeting of the Wairoa Rugby Referees' Association, the election of officers resulted: Patron, -Mr. H. Stairmand; president, Mr. J. N. Mackay; vice-presidents, Messrs. J. McGregor and M. Osborne; secretary, Mr. B. (3. Winter; delegate to Union, Mr. R. H. Parkinson, formerly of the Bay of Plenty Association, was welcomed as a member. The balance sheet and report were adopted. While there continues to be a steady stream of visitors to Wairoa's holiday resorts, such as Morere and Opoutnina, it is clear that it may not continue unless more attention is paid to the visitors. It is safe to say that there is a good five years" programme before the proposed Wairoa Ten Thousand Club—if it is ever formed— and seeing that Wairoa is about to publish a booklet showing the many attractions of the district it is urged that something must be done to justify the claim to a share of the visitors.

Last week-end the bowling tournament. Wairoa section, for the Patntahi Cup was played between two local rinks arid the Waikaremoana club. The greens were in good order, and both Wairoa teams won. Osier, jun., Drysdale, ,1. Cooke and Clark (a) 27, beat Lambert, Nieol, A. Swninson and Pilkington (s) 12; and W. Crarpr. R. Stuart; Eraser ("sub for Sheehan) and Coleman (s) 2? beat Carter. Keehan, Swainson and Bi-aen (s) 15. The two Wairoa I cams now play TeKaraka, which has defeated Patutahi. The progressive pairs on Tuesdav resulted: Skips.—Clark, 1; HallWright 2. Leads.—R. McOarter and Mr.' Maudesley, Eketahuna. are the guests of. Miss Pilson, McLean street.—Mrs. J. Sutcliffe, Wanganui, is visiting .her mother, Mrs. .'H. Grout.— Mrs. Luxtou and family, who have been visiting the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Gibbs, have returned to the Hul't.—Mrs. Archer and her small son, of Christchurch, are staying' with Mrs. Archer's parents, Mr. and Mrs. McCorkindale, of the Waiatai Valley.—Mr. ajul Mrs. R. C. Pilson and family, Napier, were visitors to Wairoa during the Faster holidays, staying with Miss Pilson at her home in McLean street. — Mr. J. Walker, who was in the drapery business in Wairoa for many years, is on a short visit here.—Mr. Albert Johnstone. Matawhero, met with an accident oh Tuesday night. He was driving a car past Turiroa and had stopped to make an adjustment. Another car came along and a stone flew up from one of the wheels, striking him in the eye. After receiving first, aid he was able to proceed home. Mr. T. M. Council, who is leaving shortly on a holiday trip to England was tendered a farewell party by Mr. and Mrs. McCorkindale at their home in the Waiatai Valley. During the course of a very pleasant evening. Sir. McCorkindale presented Mr. Connell with a fountain pen as a mark of the esteem in which he is held by the settlers in the valley. Dancing and cards filled up the time, the card game winners being Mrs. Jafdine and Mr. McCorkindale; other prizes fell to Mrs. Watson and Mr. C. Ross..
