£110,000,000 RISE IN 1934-35 Although the number of very largo incomes is decreasing, Britain's wealth as a whole 'is becoming greater. According to the report of the Commissioner of Inland Revenue for 1934-35, the estimated gross income for Great Britain and Northern Ireland in that year was £3,250,000,000. This is approximately £110,000,000 higher than in 1933-34, and the highest estimate since .1931-32. The total taxable income for the year is estimated at £.1,200,000,000, compared with £1,158,500,000 in 193334. Fourteen estates exceeded £1,000,000 in Great Britain during the year. They included six over £1,500,000, live over £2,000,000, and one over £3,000,000. The total number .of estates over £1,000,000 is the same as the previous year. The year in which they were most numerous was 1930-31, when there were 22. By .1932-33, the number had dropped to five. While the number of estates in the highest categories remains constant, the report shows that the total number of persons paying income tax has risen to 3,500,000, an increase of 150,000 on the previous year.
