FLYING BOAT UPSET
LOSS OP THREE LIVES PAN-AMERICAN ATR WAYS SWERVE TO AVOID BOAT (Elec. Tel, Copyright—United Press Assn.) POPT OF SPAIN (Trinidad). April 11. A flying boat, the Puerto Kican Clipper of Pan-American Airways, similar in design to craft used in the Pacific service, capsized in the hay to-day, when the pilot in taking off for Buenos Aires, swerved sharply in an effort to avoid a small fishing boat. Two of the 16 passengers and the steward were drowned by the water which quickly filled the cabins, whilst five passengers were superficially injured. The passengers drowned were:— Roman Martinez, a New York exporter. Eric Brough, of London. Jose Ifurbi, a Spanish pianist, en route on a South American concert tour. Among the injured was Airs. Claiborne .Foster Pice, formerly a prominent aVtress under her maiden name. A Pan-American official could not immediately determine the extent of the damage to the craft. The fishing boat, was grazed.
