EYE INJURY SUFFERED
WATER POLO PLAYER NOTED AUCKLAND MAN (Por Pirns Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. An injury to an eye may result in the partial loss of sight to W. P. Smith, the well-known swimmer and former 'captain of the Auckland water polo team. While playing in an inter-house water polo match in the tepid baths, he was accidentally struck by an opposing player of the H.M.S. Philomel team, a finger inflicting a cut on the eye. Smith received medical attention and a later examination revealed that a piece of tissue had been removed from the eyeball.
