The finance committee of the Borough Council recently wrote off the following Hifms, mostly, charges on services during the earthquake periods, or other adjustments .':— Electricity, £35; sales, £l4: water, £27; sanitation, £2l; overcharges, £4; total, £ll4. at the Borough Council meeting by 'the | .Mayor, Mr. H. L. Murker, .who said that these were very lasting and it would avoid sending away so much money lo Australia. The work already authorised should go on. The engineer, on being asked his opinion, said the poles wounld not stand earthquake shocks. The matter was then dropped. Good progress is being made by the contractors on the work of erecting the vest room and Hunket quarters, on the north aide of the Borough Council chambers. The frame of the structure is now up. Wairoa listeners-in had a good reception of the broadcast from Wellington of
the civic welcome to the prime Minister, the Hon. M. .1. Savage. The proceedings at Parliament on Thursday were not so clear, but many who have not had an opportunity of attending such a function got ;i good idea of the proceedings. Mr. A. E. Edlington has been appointed overseer of the. borough storage tanks contract, soon to be started.
