(Herald Correspondent.) .As a result of the February storms, which defoliated nearly all the apple trees in the district, they are all breaking out into bloom, and if the weather keeps line they will be in full bloom in about a fortnight.. Another old resident, son of’a Wairoa pioneer family, passed away on Wednesday in tire person of Mr. \V. G. Cooper, aged 72 years. The deceased resided in the, Tawiiara Valley, and on Tuesday lie visited town to consult bis medical attendant, in belief that lie had a bad heart. He was the third son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Cooper, of Fraserdown, and was connected with the Hastings family of the. same name. He lived practically all bis life in, the district, and a( one time was farming at Alakapua in conjunction with Air. W. Smith. He had been a member of the old To Kapn (Frascrtown) Rifle Club, and was the donor of a valuable trophy. In his later years he found staunch friends in Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Powdrell. who provided a home for him. He leaves the following sisters and brothers:—Mrs. R. Hunt, Stratford, Mrs. T. McNeill, Terapatiki, Mrs. R. D. Maney, Hastings, Mr. John Cooper, Wanganui, Mr. Walter Cooper, Ilntuma, Mr. Donald Couper, Frascrtown, Mr. Andrew Couper, Auckland. and Messrs. Fred and Peter Couper, Wairoa. The fAn era 1 took place at the Wairoa Cemetery on Friday, the services at the church and the graveside being conducted by the Veil. Archdeacon Butterfield. There is a large exodus of Maliia and Nuliaka natives to Dannevirke to attend the annual Mormon conference being held there. For the last five years these functions have been held at Nuliaka.

A concert party from radio station 2ZP. Wairoa, gave a delightful concert at Tuai. Afessrs A. Perry (“Uncle Peter”), G. Allridge and Reg. Herbert rendered their usual popular items, and the children’s session was taken by Joyce Tngoe. Shirley Svenson, Betty Wright, and Douglas Brown, all of whom acquitted themselves well. “Aunt Wendy’’ and “Aunt Beth” were also present. At the close the Rev. D. C. Alley thanked the performers on behalf of the Methodist Church for their fine effort.

Mr. J. Bennett, a son of Bishop Bennett, a new member of flic staff, rendered good service at the school sports. —Sister Goldsmith, who has been in hospital for some time, is convalescing at her sister’s home, Spooner's Point.— Mr. P. J. Brewster, chairman of the Wairoa Hospital Board, is on holiday at Rotorua.—Miss Esme Scott, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. 0. Scott, who has been a hospital patient for some weeks, was discharged on Friday.—Miss May, Ruakituri, is a patient in the Wairoa Hospital.—Mr. J. Kellilier is a patient hi the Wairoa Hospital.—The Rev. Air. Teague opens his ministry in the Methodist Church here on Sunday.—Mrs. F. Robinson and her sister. Miss N. Hooper, are visiting Napier.—Mr. F. Heise, Marine parade, is now out of hospital. The engagement, is announced ot Frank William, third son of Airs. E. Refold and the Hate Air. Lefort, of London. to Isabel Margaret, younger daughter of ATr. and Mrs. Harry Turner, of Wairoa.
