OBLIGATION REMAINS
POSITION IN OTSBORNE
“The obligation ot' certain borough councils and other local authorities to prepare arid submit town planning schemes before .launary 1, 19.97, still remains.”
The Minister of Internal Affairs, Ihe lion. W. L. Harry, made this statemen 1 in a letter read at lasi night's meeting of' the Gisborne Borough Council, in reply to an inquiry made by the council. “It is the desire of the Government,” the letter continued, “that schemes should he prepared and submitted by the local authorities concerned, in accordance with this requirement. I may say that quite a number of local authorities have prepared, or have in the course of preparation, town-planning schemes, and 1 trust that your council will proceed with the preparation ot its scheme at an early date.” The Mayor, Mr. D. W. Coleman, M.P., raid timt a certain amount ol work had been done in Gisborne, and on his recommendation the mailer was referred to Ihe town clerk, Mr. W. M. Jenkins, the engineer, Mr. E. R. Thomas, and the Mayor.
