EXECUTIVE MEETING
SUCCESS AT OPOTIKI
TEAM TO MEET NAPIER
At a committee meeting of the Oisborue Amateur Athletic and Harrier Club last evening the chairman, Mr. \V. M. Wildish, presided over the following members: Messrs. L. Barker, hon. secretary; T. Leslie, hon. treasurer; E. Chambers, R J. Algie, C. Parker, M. Taylor, I). Quinn, and V. Gavin.
A report on the trip to Opotiki undertaken last Saturday by members of the club, who competed against. representatives from Opotiki, Hamilton and Rotorua, was submitted by Mr. Algie, who, with Mr. K. Dobbie, had acted as manager of the team. Mr. Algie reported I hat the team had had an enjoyable trip and hail been warmly welcomed by their hosts. Owing* to delays on the road the team did not arrive at Opotiki until about, •2 p.m. and were unable to take the field until 2.110 p.m. However, the officials held events until the Gisborne team was ready, an action which was much appreciated. The athletes had performed well and had succeeded in annexing the banner donated by Mr. G. S. Moody, Mayor of Opotiki, for competition amongst the four clubs. Points I'or the trophy had been gained as follow:—Gisborne .100, Hamilton 43, Opotiki '43, and Rotorua 2S. The performance of the local team had been specially meritorious in view of the fact that they had just, come out of the bus after a journey over rough roads. The women athletes of the team had amply justified the decision of the club to send them. As a result of their performances, a considerable number of points had been added to the team's total. It was decided to forward a letter to the Opotiki club thanking that body for its hospitality to the Gisborne team and officials. Thanks were also tendered to Mrs. Kermode, who had acted as chaperon, and Mr. .1. Nesbitt, Te Karaka, for his services in connection with the organisation of transport.
NAPIER CLUB'S VISIT.
The chairman reported that arrangements were well in hand for the visit on Saturday next of a team from the Napier club, the present holders of the Hawke's Hay Herald Shield. The following programme of scratch events was approved:—looyds, 220yds, 440yds, 880yds, and one mile Hat events; SSOyds,' senior cycle, one mile senior cycle and three-mile senior cycle races; 120yds. hurdles; shot putt; discus throw; broad jump; hop, step and jump; high jump; pole vault. The following team was approved to represent, the club against Napier:— Field events.—Broad jump, G. Tiffen, W. Wallace and H. Littler; hftp, step and jump, G. Till'en, L. Jones and I'. Hockley; high jump, L. Grey, O. Tilfeu and W. Wallace; shot, putt, J. Algie, A. Redmond, and T. McGuffie; discus throw, A. Redmond, J. Algie and T. McGuffie; pole vault, L. Ofcy. Track events.—looyds, (1. Quinn, P. Haisman and L. Jones; 220yds, G. Quinn, C. H. Dawson and L. Jones; 440yds, C. H. Dawson. P. Hockley, T. Leslie and G. quinn; SSOyds, C. Parkinson, T. Trcngrove, A. Bryan and L. Morrow; one mile, C. Parkinson, T. Trcngrove and A. Bryan; hurdles, L. Grey, P. Hockley, R, Kells and G. Till'en; relay, G. Quinn, C. 11. Dawson, C. Parkinson, T. Trcngrove, I la. Jones, and P. Haisman.

Oil behalf of (he dance committee, Mr. Parker reported that details had been arranged for the function to beheld on Saturday evening in honour of the visitors. The ladies' committee, to which the club had often been indebted in the past, had again agreed to attend to the catering. The chairman made a special appeal to Gisborne Amateur Athletic Club members to provide billets for the visitors. He also mentioned that if would be a great help if those able to assist in this connection would let the committee know as soon as possible. Mr. E. Algie. the club's delegate to the Hawke's Bay-Poverty Bay centre, wrote, from Napier stating that he heartily agreed with the Gisborne club's contention that Gisborne's star sprinter. Graham Quinn, holder of the New Zealand championship over 220yds.. should have been included in the centre nominations to the New Zealand Amateur Athletic, Association for inclusion in the Dominion's contingent for the Olympic Games to be held at Berlin. The programme submitted by Te Karaka club for its Kaster meeting was approved, subject to the addition of a shot putt and a high jump.
