WAIROA POWER BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING

DISPUTE WITH COUNCIL

(Humid CorrosponilHiit.) The monthly meeting of the Wairoa Power Board was held on Monday. Present: Messrs. C. V. Chamberlain, chairman, .1. Corkill, T. Davey, D. D. Pryde, H. L. Darker, R. Tapper, jun., E." 11. Glendinning and J. R. Gillespie. Reference was made to the illness ol Mr. K. B. Crombie, and the secretary said he had written to him expressing the board's regret and hoping for a speedy recovery. Mr. Tapper moved, and Mr. T. Davey seconded, a motion to put on record the board's regret at a remark passed by Mr. Darker at the last meeting criticising the chairman. Mr. Marker said he had no objection to the motion as his remarks were not addressed to the chairman. The motion was carried. Mr. Harker being the only dissenienf. Correspondence was read from the Wairoa. Borough Council advising that it had been decided to set up a sub committee to meet a sub-committee ot the Power Board to endeavour to, reach a settlement of the existing disputes between the board and the council, and advising the conditions, namely (he elimination of all active participants on either side. Mr. Davey moved, and Mr. Tapper seconded,' that the. letter be received. After some discussion, during which the chairman said that the Hon. R. Semple had given his ruling and the most they could do now was to help the council, the motion was carried, Mr. Harker voting against it. The Hawke's Bay- Development Council appealed for assistance in the work of land utilisation survey being undertaken in the Hawke's Bay province, the total sum required being £4oo.—Tire board decided to reply that it had no funds available for the purpose.

The Master Bakers and Pastrycooks' Association requested support to a protest made to the Minister of Labour against, any curtailing of starting hours in tho baking industry ■—The letter w T as received.

Messrs .1. W. D. Harvey and A. S. Bell wrote in reference to the "excess units," the latter slating his belief that his motor was faulty.—The finance committee had dealt with the matter by writing off tho sum in dispute, but stated that in future payment would be enforced. Mr. Bell's complaint was referred to the engineer.

The chairman stated that as next meeting flatc would be Easter Monday he moved that the meeting be held on April 20. The motion was carried.

Mr. Davey initiated a discussion on the question of trees fouling power lines. The chairman said the Palmerston North conference had been dealing with the problem. Mr. Davey said he thought the board and owners of trees could work harmoniously together. The chairman pointed out that the board had the power to go as far as lopping off branches of trees. Accounts totalling £2902 were passed
