SWAY TO FICTION AGAIN
Popular taste in reading matter seems to be returning lo fiction, according to Dr. Guy 11. Kcholefietd, Parliamentary Librarian, who returned to Welling ton from a stndv of library methods abroad. Dr. Scholf'ield -aid Ihat in the last few years libraries! everywhere had very much the same experience. Dining the depression, which bail caused an increase in reading, through I lie people having more linn- on their hands, there had been u fairly general tendency lo "heavy" reading. Social problems were studied considerably. Bui now popular taste seemed to be returning lo fiction. People appeared lo regard libraries, as recreational as well as educational. though of course there were the specialised libraries which had no fiction al all on their shelves.
