SPEEDY GIRL SWIMMERS
TWO DOMINION RECORDS INTERMEDIATE AND JUNIOR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS ' (Per Press Association.) HAMILTON, last night. Two Dominion records were established at the first evening session of the New Zealand junior and intermediate swimming championships at Hamilton last evening. Miss I. Purdio (Otago) reduced Miss Edna Champion's 220yds. intermediate girls' free-style record from 2.52 2-sseo. to 2.so|sec, while Miss Nawi Kera, a 13-year-old Rotoma Maori girl, lowered Miss' Dorothy Symons' junior, girls' 100 yards record, from to 67 l-ssec. In the heats in the morning she had previously lowered the record to 68 1-5 sec. ;
Results were as follows : Intermediate boys, 440yds free-style.— S: W. Jarvis (Otago), 1; A. Pascoe (Auckland), 2; H. Goldsmith (Auckland), 3. Won by 7yds. Time, 5.35 1-5. Intermediate girls, 220yds free-style.-* Miss, J. Purdie (Otago), 1; Miss. A. Biteieib (Wellington), 2; Miss D. Symon (Southland); 3. Won by Byds. Time, 2.so|—a New Zealand record. Junior boys. 75yds breaststroke.—L. Robertson (Wellington), 1; J. Mitchell (Chrislchurch), 2; M. Shanahan (South Canterbury), 3. Won by 2ft. Time, 58 4-ssec* Junior girls, 100yds free-style.—Miss N. Kern (South Auckland), 1; Miss M. Black (Auckland), 2; Miss J. McDonald (Southland), 3> Won by 6yds. Time, 67 l-ssec. —a New Zealand record. Junior girls' diving.—Miss P. Watts (Wanganui), 1. The only competitor.
VICTORIAN TITLE RACE NEW ZEALANDERS UNPLACED MELBOURNE, Jan. 26. Mathieson and Jarvis, the New Zealand swimmers, were unsuccessful in, their final appearance at Melbourne on Saturday in the Victorian 220yds. freestylo championship, finishing equal fifth. The title was won by Alan Crawford in 2.28. ■
