There were then 84 runs on the board. Mitchell-Lines' joined Hardstaff, and immediately settled down to score, but he fell to Warnes after scoring 10. At this stage M.C.C. had lost seven wickets for 106, but the Barber-Hard-staff partnership then yielded 52 runs and finally the innings was declared closed at 3.25 p.m. with 198 runs for eight wickets.
