The meeting of the Matawai .Sports Club, which was to have been held last Saturday, was postponed until Wednesday week. Arrangements for tlie February (lower show also will be made at the end of next week.

The big Women's Institute group picnic, which was to have taken place, m Matawai to-day under the auspices of the Matawai Women's Institute, also has been postponed on account of the ■iea'th of King George V. All members of the movement in New Zealand will join in sincere sympathy with Queen Alary, who is a member of the. Sandringham Women's Institute, England. Mr. J. Emmerson, who has been in business as a saddler and bootmaker in Matawai since 1913, is leaving the district shortly for Wellington. Mr. Emmerson's familiar figure will be. sadly missed by a wide circle of friends. He has acted as people's warden at St. Mary's Church since it was built, the late "Mrs. Emmerson having been president of tlie Ladies' Guild since its inception till her death nine years ago. Mr. Emmerson has been a keen tennis enthusiast, but had to give up public play after a severe illness. Miss Emmerson", who accompanies her father to Wellington, is also a keen sport, and a representative basketball player, being a member of the local committee and of the Matawai Basketball Sub-union. Her only brother lives in Wellington, where his" father and sister will join him. Mr. E. Green, Matawai, who intends leaving in March with the New Zealand fanners' party for a European tour, is at present on h'obday in Wellington. —Mr. R llenson, Mt. Eden, Auckland, is staying in Matawai.—Master Robert Coates, I'l'iha. is spending a short holiday with friends in Matawai.—Mrs. J. McMillan and lan, of Orinond, returned on Saturday after visiting Mrs. C. V. .Smith, Matawai.—Miss R. Smith returned on Wednesday from a short visit to Opotiki.
