Because .of the •shipping strike, four visitors to 1.,01'd Howe Island, two women and two meu, were compelled to remain there for more than six weeks. They reached .Melbourne in the AustralianOriental liner Changte yesterday. The stranded visitors were tlie Misses M. Firth and I?.' C". Dixon and Messrs H. If. Roxburgh and Baxter. They said they had spent a cheerless Christmas, as there had been a shortage of tea, sugar, and flour. Tobacco became a luxury, and they cut their cigarettes in half while they waited impatiently for a.vessel/On January 9 the Changte arrived from Sydney, and they were taken on board.
