SHERENDEN FAREWELL
REV. J. \V. & MRS. MARTIN
A pleasant evening was spent on Thursday at Mrs. Tbbotson's home, Sherenden, when friends of the Rev*. .1. W. rind Mrs. Martin gathered to bid them farewell' prior to their departure to Mangapapa, Gisborne, reports Hie Hastings Tribune. Singing and musical items were enjoyed by everyone and after supper had been served, Mr. A. W. Butt, in an appropriately worded speech, on behalf of the Sherenden people, asked Mr. Martin to accept, a very handsome I ravelling rug and Mrs: Martin a crystal bowl and servers.
Mr. A. Whyte. on behalf of Crowntborpe friends, presented Mr. Martin with a substantial cheque, these gifts expressing a little of (he. esteem in which the guests of the evening v/ere held by all who had come in conlnid with them. Sir Andrew Bussell and, the Rev. J. Patterson also spoke in. praise of Mr. Martin's work.
In replying on behalf uf himself and his wife,' Mr. Martin, thanked those present for their gifts and good wishes.
