BRADMAN CRITICISED

BROADCAST OF MATCH STRONG PROTEST MADE SYDNKY, Jan. 17. It was announced in Adelaide yesterday that the South Australian Cricket Association had decided to write to the Australian Broadcasting Commission protesting against the criticism alleged to have been made of D'. G. Bradnian, captain of the South Australian Sheffield Shield team, bv an announcer during the broadcast of (lie match between South Australia and Victoria in Melbourne recently. It has been alleged that the commission's commentator said, after the V ictorian appeal against the light had been upheld: "Here is something very unusual. Bradnian is waiting at the gate for the umpires. Apparently he is riot satisfied even now. Wonder whether Bradnian thinks he. knows more about it than the umpires themselves. It is definitely not the right thing for bun to do." The general manager of the Australian Broadcasting Commission, Air. C. J. A, Moses, said last night that he would make an inquiry to ascertain whether the allegation was correct. He had not received any communication on the subject, The policy of the commission in relation to broadcasts of cricket matches was that the officer describing (he play should refrain from criticising any member of the teams or the urnires, and should simply give a running description of the play. An undertaking that, this policy would be observed" had been given to the Victorian Cricket Association, and he intended to see that the undertaking was observed. If any criticism was made from its stations, it was not with the commissions knowledge. . According to advice from Adelaide, the South Australian Cricket Association has agreed to a motion expressing "resentment at the biassed nature of the comments of the Australian Broadcasting Commission's announcer." In Melbourne cricket circles, the complaints made in Adelaide are not taken very seriously. It was pointed out tonight that the fact that a fortnight had elapsed before any complaint was made indicated that .-there was small ground for comment.
