LONDON MEAT MARKETS N.Z. LAMB REMAINS FIRM North Island lamb remains firm at Sinithfield,'with lightweight Southdowns last week quoted up to 8d per lb. Canterbury lambs have not arrived on the market, yet. The demand for wethers was not so keen as last week, and heavyweights declined slightly in value. Quotations for New* Zealand chilled beef were made for the first time for several weeks'. Prices for both porker and baeoner pigs from 1 New Zealand remained unchanged. "Lamb.—The market is steady with prices unchanged. The demand is imnroving, and the market is short of unplies until the unloading of steamers due next, week arrive.

‘‘Mutton.—The market, for wether and ewes is steady for lightweights, with a tendency to be easier for heavyweights. “Bpcf.—The frozen beef market is quiet and unchanged. "New Zealand Porker Pigs.—The market is slightly easier. Prices to-day are from ,!,d to jd lower than quotations, with trade slow. «

New Zealand Baeoner Pigs.—The nriee has advanced slightlv owing to temporary-short, spot ‘stocks.’’

IRON ORE DEAL LARGE BRITISH VENTURE British capital is responsible lor the largest iron ore mining venture east of Suez, which has been decided upon. The deposits are at Koolali Island, Ynmpi Sound, Western Australia, '.argie quantities will lie sold to Japan. The preliminary expenditure involved in opening up the deposits will be about £250,000. P.rasserts, Limited, the English iron and steel company involved, have concluded a contract with the Nippon Mining Company, of Japan, to supply a considerable quantity of the ore, probably millions of tons.
