LITTLE TOES GOING
NO LONGER NEEDED SYDNEY, Jan. 9. The little toe is diminishing. It is losing its usefulness, but thousands of years may elapse before, it vanishes. A Sydiiev anatomist declared to-day that the evolution of man and the constant wearing of shoes had denied the little toe the value it once possessed. Li the days when man climbed trees to collect eggs and birds for lunch, the little toe was useful in gaining holds. Now after a'few years wo forget about climbing, and the little toe serves no useful purpose. In fact, it is an appendage that has outlived its usefulness. In many instances people have lost muscular control of the unit arid are unable to move it at will. This indicates, said the specialist, that Nature is deciding tc throw off redundant growths and supply the body with the minimum units necessary for movement. and efficiency. In future years we may wear shoes even narrower than at present. It is just part of ceaseless evolution.
