CLAIMS DENIED

ITALIAN VICTORY

OPINION OF ETHIOPIANS RUSE TO, IMPRESS LEAGUE FURTHER ROMAN VERSION ORDERS OF GRAZIANI (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Jan. 21, 11 a.m.) LONDON, Jan. 20. Supplementing the previous Abvssinian disparagement of the Italian version of the Ganale-Dorya battle, it is stated that Ethiopian headquarters, without reference to the Emperor, has issued a special communique declaring that the Italian claims are completely false and are merely designed to impress the League Council. The communique recalls that the Abyssinians announced on January- 13 that Ras Desta. was withdrawing his troops up the Ganale-Dorya sector to solve supply difficulties. The Rome correspondent of the Times says that authoritative circles describe the Ganale-Dorya victory as important rather than decisive, and express the opinion that a decisive blow will be struck on the northern front.

Motor transport gave the Italian pursuers a marked advantage over the flight-wearied Abyssinians. General Graziani allegedly sent the following message to his men : “Chase the enemy. Give him no rest. Get your teeth into him.”

A message from Desse says that the Emperor personally used a machine-gun against an Italian bomber which circled the palace at a high altitude.
