SCOTTISH STEAMER
THE LOCH LOMOND SINGLE SCREW VESSEL A. comparatively now steamer, the Loch Lomond, the flagship ot the fleet owned by Mnolny and Mclntyre, Limited, Gasgow arrived at Auckland from Vancouver on Sunday. The vessel made the passage, via Apia, and, with the exception of the first week of the voyage, when rough seas wore encountered, fair weather prevailed.
The Loch Lomond is numbered among rim few new ships which are conl-burning steamers and are fitted with a single screw. The application of the latest, methods of boiler construct ion and the use of superheated steam enable economies in fuel to lie made. On her recent voyage the Loch Lomond averaged about 101 knots. With a gross tonnage of 5452 the vessel was built on the Clyde in 1034. She was launched in July and made her maiden voyage in September. One of her first voyages was to Egypt in connection with the transport ot machinery and equipment for the military forces stationed .there.
The ship is commanded by Captain J. D. Taylor and is at present under charter to the Union Company. After proceeding to Wellington the Loch Lomond will go to Australia. The Maclav-Mclh tyre vessels usual ly trade to Australia and it is seldom thee visit the Dominion.
