POVERTY BAY ASSOCIATION

HAWKE HUP CHALLENGE

The weekly meeting of the Poverty liav Cricket -Association was held last evening. There wore present Messrs 11. E Maude, in (lie chair, A. Bignall, C. Frazer, W. Stewart, P. (’. Dwyer, A. Baker. D. Wells, Al. K. Boon, and .1 J. Macdonald, acting secretary.

A letter was received from the Hawke’s Bay Cricket- Association with reference lo the Kirk Cup, asking that a copy of the rules covering the clip be forwarded to them. The Manawatii association wrote offering dales for a challenge to Poverty Bay for the Hawke Cup, namely, January 31. February 1 and 3, or alternately February 21. 22 and 24. After general discussion it was left to the acting-secretary to get into communication with the Manawatii secretary suggesting a slight alteration to the dates submitted.

A Idler was received from the Ladies Criekt I Association with reference to a return match with Hawke’s -Bay at Gisborne, asking if a wicket could be made available. It. was left to the secretary to reply that, if possible and dates suited, it wicket would be provided at the Oval, failing which the executive would try to secure a wicket on the High School ground. The question is to be considered again when a definite date is made known.

Tile manager of the King’s Theatre. .Mr .1. .M. Downie. wrote stilting his Willingness to do everything in his power to assist in the entertainment of the Marvleliune Cricket Club team during its stay in Gisborne. The acting-secretary was instructed to write, thanking Mr Downie for his kind offer.

The draw for the junior competit games on Saturday is as follows: City v. Rugby Old Boys on the baths wicket ; Unemployed v. Mnrisl on the concrete wicket.

The points in this competition to date are as toilows: —--K-ugny Did Boys. 77; Marist, 62; City, 42; Unemployed. 21; High School A. 21; High School B, 17.
