MANGERE RELIEF WORK
ADDITIONAL PAYMENT MADE LOSS THROUGH WEATHER Payments to ’ relief workers employed at, Mnngere aerodrome under the coopera live contract system, in order to bring their earnings for last week lip to the amount they would have received under No. 5 scheme, were made at the Auckland labor bureau. The total additional amount involved was J 1260, divided among about 240 men. The men refused to si art work on Friday morning owing to their earnings being much below expectations on account of wet weather, but after consultation with officials*of the Auckland Provincial Unemployed Workers’ Association. they resumed work. The Minister oi Employment, lion. 11. T. Armstrong, was communicated. villi, and it was agreed that for one mouth tlie men should he guaranteed an amount, equal to that which they would normally earn under No. 5 scheme. Authority to make the payment, was not received by the Labor Department until Friday evening, hid the task of calculating the amounts owing was promptly put in hand and all who applied oil Saturday morning were paid.
