ENTERPRISE REWARDED
TROTTING DRIVER’S SUCCESS Enterprise was rewarded when F. Holmes, the Christchurch trainerdriver, piloted Graham Direct to victory in the Auckland Trotting Cup, the principal race on the Auckland Trotting Club’s programme on Friday. Driving Roi I’Or, Holmes won the Ashburton Trotting Cup at the meeting at Ashburton on Boxing Day, and then cunte to Auckland by aeroplane to take part in the Auckland Club’s meeting. Presenting the trophy and a prize whip to Holmes after the big race, the Prime Minister, the Hon. M. J. Savage, said he hoped the trainer would never have occasion to use the whip, and that every time he started he would “win by a. street.” “He seems'to lie a flying man in trotting ~au<i; in every other way,” said Mr Savage, adding that Holmes had flown to Auckland in a similar manner last year. Holmes received the trophy on behalf of Graham Direct ’s owner, Mr J. Westernnui, who was not present.
