THE WEATHER To-day’s North Island Report Blue skies were reported this morning at Gisborne and Last Cape, hut overcast conditions prevailed elsewhere in the North island, with rain at Ttntranga and Auckland. Moderate southerly breezes were reported south, ot Last Cape, and light northerlies further north. The barometer had continued the falling movement. Temperatures at 9 o’clock were: Auckland and Gisborne 68 degrees, Tauranga 62. Opotiki 73, Last Gape 72. Napier 60. and'Wellington 58. Rough seas were reported at Wellington : elsewhere moderate or smooth. Last Night’s Forecast A depression is crossing New Zealand to-day, while an anticyclone covers Eastern Australia. Winds: Moderate to strong northerlies at first in and north of Cook Strait ; southerlies; over the South Island and becoming general within 24 hours and freshening. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rather rough south of Castlepoint and in the Cook Strait area, rising somewhat shortly north of Cape Egrnont ; otherwise slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea ; Moderate to strong southerly winds and rather rough seas, but later moderating. Weather: Unsettled, with rain in most districts, but improving to-morrow on the West Coast ot the South Island; temperatures becoming cooler. Midday Forecast. General inference.—A depression has been crossing the Dominion during the week-end. and the northern portion still has to cross the Auckland province.
