The new 1400-nere artificial lake to preserve Paris from the dangers ot ilood and drought is tit Champoubeit. „n the upper reaches of the Maf.no, It is the third of n chain of .four stud) giant reservoirs established within si radius of 150 miles of Paris. Between them they will .contain some 2,400,000.000 cubic feet of wiatei to enable the output of the .Heine, when at its lowest level, to he. increased artificially by 30 per cent foi Uio day*.
Should :i flood of such proportions as that of 1930 recur, the four reservoirs will suffice to lower the water level by about Sin.
