P.B. TURF CLUB

RACES AT THE PARK ALL READY FOR THURSDAY MANY VISITORS COMING An animated scene was presented at the Park course this morning, when the majority of the horses engaged for events at the Poverty Bay Turf Club’s meeting, which opens on Thursday, were given a final gallop. There were present to witness the trials a large number of spectators, including several .ladies, and also numbering among them some Opotiki, East Coast, and Wairoa enthusiasts, There are to be strong representations of these three districts at the races, and much interest will centre on the. doings -of horses from the respective areas.

Though the training tracks have had a good “doing” during the past month, owing to the number of horses which have been using them regularly, they are still capable of being used, while the condition of the course proper gives a splendid advertisement for the Park as a winter racing ground. Regutur patrons of racing in this district will tiope that the reputation of tho Park course for good weather at the. winter meetings will be sustained this week, as only an assurance, of fine weather seems to be needed to ensure tho success of the steeplechase gathering. In anticipation ol' the meetings of tho Poverty Bay Turf Club and the Pov, erty Bay Hunt Club, the Borough Council has given close attention to the Condition of fencing and ‘stands at the Park, and everything is pronounced byracing men to lie in good order for the spectators. The usual staffs will man the totalisator and other offices, and club officials are sparing no effort to ensure that the meeting will come up to the standard of past, winter meetings at tho Park
