BUTCHER BOYS’ CONTEST

From a relative in England, a Gisborne resident has, received a copy of the Wigan Observer, an important’provincial newspaper, containing details of a competition conducted in Wigan to promote interest- in New Zealand lamb. Curiosity was aroused by the sight of many local butchers’ boys parading the street with decorated bicycles. They were, entrants id the competition, which was for the bast decorated bicycle advertising New Zealand lamb, substantial prizes being offered, and the competition being_ open to butchers in Wigan and district. The competition was organised by the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board, and there were 21 entries, the judging being watched by a large crowd.
