CAMBRIDGE APPLICATION

OBJECTIONS TO NEW LICENSE

Flans have now been approved for tiie erection of a new theatre at Cambridge by Mr T. F. Richards, on the site of his old-established grocery premises in Victoria street, which were destroyed by tire some time ago. Mr Richards proposes to build a modern picture- theatre with three shops in tlm front. The structure' of about 50l't. frontage and 20Cft. depth is planned in reinforced concrete, with imitation marble front and a sloping iloor for the 'heatre. which is designed to accommodate 600 people. The likely lessees of the new theatre in the event of an exhibit license being granted are Messrs Kerridge and Company. of ( Osborne. However, strong objections to another lift use have bent raised by Amalgamated Theatres. Limited, the existing lessees if the town hall, in which pictures are screened daily. Tin- matter was before the Borough 1 'nuncil at its monthly meeting lastweek. The Minister of Industries wrote • skiiig the council a number of questions regarding the- existing picture entertainment service.
