DISCUSSIONS OPENED CABLES TO MR. . COATES The question of overseas indebtedness Was discussed at a meeting of the Municipal Association on June 14, according to a report presented to the Auckland City Council by the deputy-Mayor, Mr . B. Martin, who attended the meeting of the association on behalf of the Mayor, Mr Ernest Davis. Mr Martin, in a report to the finance committee, stated that' confidential information regarding overseas indebtedness had been placed before the association and would be available at the next meeting of the committee. The Mayor referred to cablegrams which had passed between himself and the Minister of Finance, Mr Coates, in London. “Confidential cablegrams are still being exchanged between here and London,” he added, “but it is not desirable at the moment to give the matter any great publicity.” Certain information had been requested and, if it could bo made public when it came to band, that course would be followed. . The recommendation of the committee that the Mayor should discuss the matter with Mr Coates on the latter's return from London was adopted.
