The Poverty Hay Stockbrokers’ Associaton has decided that no further Cattle Fairs will be held in Gisborne until September next. The services at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Cobden street, will be taken to-morrow by Rev. A. J. H. Dow, 8.A., 8.D., the newly inducted minister. The meetings at the Salvation Army Citadel to-morrow will be conducted by Major S. M. Hayes, of Auckland. The major will be paying his initial visit j to Gisborne, the work of the Salvation Army in the Poverty Bay district having recently come under his direction, j Attention is drawn to the advertisement on Page 1 of the services in the Bright street Methodist Church to-mor-row. The preacher will be the Rev. 11. Daniel. His evening subject will be i “The Priest, the Levite, and the Out- ! cast—an ancient parable in a modern | setting." A cordial invitation is extended to all interested. i Mr. W. E. Barnard, M.P., Napier, is visiting Gisborne for the next few days. To-morrow afternoon he has consented to hold a meeting at Bartlett's. On Monday evening he speaks at Tolaga Bay and on Tuesday evening ho addresses a public meeting in the City Hall, Gisborne. Mr. Barnard is a very able and logical speaker, and everybody is invited to attend these meetings and hear Labor’s case. , At the invitation of the Te Karaka * Women’s Institute, Miss R. Cook, of Messrs. Petties’ staff, visited Te Karaka on Thursday and gave members of the institute a most interesting talk on “Home Dressmaking.” Using the Me- : Call printed pattern as the main factor I in the demonstration, Miss Cook explained the procedure in cutting, adjusting mea- j surements and fitting, and was warmly (hanked at the conclusion of the demonstration.* j A series of public addresses upon prophetic subjects will be continued next week at the Grey Street Hall, next to tho Cash Stores, by Mr. George Dann, of Napier. The visitor’s addresses, which have attracted keen interest, are illustrated by a large prophetic chart J setting out the teaching of tho Scriptures on the subject. To-morrow even- _ ing Mr. Dann will speak on the subject 1 of “Heaven." These meetings, which are open to all, will be continued on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
