Lyttelton.—July 19: Arrived, Tamarna, 7.40 a.m., Maori, 6.50 a.in., and Toorak, 8.50 a.m., from Wellington; Breeze, 6.35 a.m., from Timnrn. ft. was reported at the monthly meeting of the Wairarapa Power Board at Carterton that a fault developed in the main sub-station at Waingmva on June 26 last, causing an interruption over tbe whole of ihc board’s area for 33 minutes. Investigations were carried out, and it was found that a cat bad jumped from the, floor into a steel potential transformer cubicle some 7ft. above floor level and above the main switchboard. One side of the cubicle had been removed in preparation for the installation of earth leakage relay equipment, and the animal had jumped through this opening, then climbed through steel fixing bars, thus making contact with one of the 11,€00-volt isolating links. This contact drew, an are to the earthed metal of the cubicle, and also across the oilier two phases, causing the automatic switches to operate, ttuisi making the station “dead.” It was estimated that, the cost of' replacements would be approximately £l9.
