New Milking Sheds On Gisborne District Farms

QEVERAL new milking sheds are being erected in the Gisbovrie district, in readiness for the coming seasoti, and others are contemplated. Much interest has been displayed in the Unemployment Board’s subsidy, arid sonic of the contemplated .work will be under the board's scheme 82. Several applications have been made for subsidies, which fvill.be limited to work put in hand by December .21, 193:1, arid confined to articles of New Zealand manufacture and New Zen | arid materials wherever practicable. In the ease of larger machines, tlie use of New Zealand pig iron is essential, otherwise the subsidies will be rendered liable to some reduction. Electric motors arid other electrical equipment arc not subsidised. Subsidies arc not payable on the maintenance or repairs, or where the cost of tho equipment is less than £lO in the case of supplying dairies, and £l.l in the ease of dairy factories. In approved cases, a subsidy of £” Tor the first £lO, increased by Is <ld in the £1 up to £IOO, and thereafter S per cent, up to £2OO and 5 per cent, in. excess of £2OO will bo granted on

the riot invoice cost, excluding instqHut ion and transport charges t o dairy factories on approved:receivingvats, pasteurisers, holding-vats, churns, coolers, packers, butterpounders, wafer and cream pumps, cheese-presses and cheese-hoops, boilers, cheese-vats, curd-mills, agitators, curd-knives and to dairies supplying to manufacturing dairies, on new milking-machines and concrete ,or other approved water-troughs for dairy stock. A" subsidy will be paid also of £2 for the first £lO, increased by Is lid in the £1 up to £IOO, and thereafter 10 per cent, up to £2OO, arid 7$ per cent, in excess of £2OO, on the net invoic® cost, excluding installation and nans port charges, to dairy factories on new approved milk or cream cans, buckets and strainers, starter-cans or machines and equipment, mother culture apparatus for starters, curd-test apparatus and equipment for control of temper attire in curing-rooms, and to dairies supplying to manufacturing dairies on approved appliances for producing boiling water or for sterilising dairy plant,'milk or cream cans, buckets and strainers, re-tinning of milk and cream cans, improvements to used milking-machines to bring them into line with requirements of “the dairy regulations, and milk or cream coolers. Early calving is expected by a number of farmers on the flats, and arrangements have been made by the New Zealand Co-operative Pig Mar koling Association to commence the collection of bobby calves on Monday Th several herds the majority of the cows will be in profit during the coining throe weeks, and if tho spring is as early as it was last year they should benefit; by the early start.
